Meet the Squarespace Designer: Christy Price

Meet Squarespace Designer Christy Price

Thanks for clicking through to learn more! I get questions like these from time to time and wanted to share a little more about my background and my business.

How did you get your start in web design?

After graduate school, I went to work for a startup in Austin. It was a crazy time and everything ran at breakneck pace, but I learned an incredible amount about design and development while working there. Eventually, I gave up corporate life for freelancing and, over the years, I’ve worked with several different platforms. I’ve hand-coded sites, worked with WordPress, Wix, Weebly, Squarespace, and other website builders. For the past few years I’ve focused on what I really like doing: working with small business owners and Squarespace.

Why do you work with Squarespace instead of WordPress, Wix, or Weebly?

The efficiency of the Squarespace templates. I can create a website for a small business that is beautiful and functional, but won’t break the bank. I know that with just a little bit of training my clients can maintain their sites themselves, plus they don’t have to worry about updating plugins or managing third party hosting.

What makes your business different from other Squarespace designers?

There are so many excellent Squarespace designers out there. I think you just have to find the right one for you. So, I guess I’m what makes my business unique. I enjoy helping my clients elevate their web presence, as well as teaching them how to update their own websites. Another thing that’s a bit different is that I’ve been working in web design for over 15 years, so I’m probably a little older than your average Squarespace website designer!

What are your Squarespace website services?

I offer full website designs and redesigns, and I also offer Designer for a Day® services. Designer for a Day is perfect for folks who have an existing Squarespace website but just need a few hours of help with leveling up the design, improving SEO, or completing a task list of items they need a hand with. I also offer an hourly service for small tweaks, Custom CSS, and answering questions about Squarespace and design best practices.

What inspires you?

Talking with other designers. I’m lucky to have excellent colleagues across the world connecting through Slack and Facebook, as well as a local professional network. And even though I’ve been working in web design a while, there’s always something new to learn.

What are a couple of sites you’ve worked on this year?

A Designer for a Day® for a Pilates instructor. She was a hoot and in her words we “brought the website into the 21st century.” We changed her Squarespace template to one with more customization options and then worked on creating a design that will convert. I also created a new website for a woman who does Reiki healing for cats and dogs. It’s pretty fantastic when your job requires looking at cute animal photos all day!

Who are your favorite clients?

Any small business owner or entrepreneur! I’ve worked with interior designers, therapists, restaurants, bloggers, authors, attorneys… the list goes on. I love creating a web presence they can be proud of.

What is one piece of advice you would give someone who needs a website?

I think it’s good to remind yourself that a website is a living document… it can change (and if it’s in Squarespace, it’s easy to change!). So don’t worry about waiting until you have 20 perfect blog posts, or professional photography, or whatever it is that is holding you back, to launch your website.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

I hang out with my husband and daughter or go for a walk with my dogs, two black Labrador retrievers. (The dogs also like to remind me that I need to take breaks from my computer and enjoy a game of fetch or two in between their naps.)

I also love swimming, travel whenever I get the chance, and I’m learning how to play golf.

Where do you see yourself in 3-5 years?

The LPGA tour? Just kidding! I’ll probably still be living outside Austin in my house on a hill. I’ll likely still be working in web design. And I hope I’m continuing to learn something new every day.
