SquarespaceWebsites Tools Extension PRO

This Squarespace extension is pure gold. I’ve been using it for years now and I’m so impressed with how the developer keeps up with Squarespace changes and is constantly updating the extension. If I had to choose only one extension this would be it, hands down. Let’s take a look at just a few of the features it offers:

Chrome Extensions Every Squarespace Designer Needs
  1. Port over pages, including entire blogs, from Squarespace 7.0 to 7.1
I used this for my own website as well as dozens of client sites. If the prospect of having to recreate all your blog posts is holding you back from moving to Squarespace 7.1, this tool will allow you to migrate your blog from one Squarespace website to another in just a few clicks.

  2. Use gallery blocks in Squarespace 7.1
This is a feature that has been on again, off again in Squarespace and one that I use on almost every website I build. The SquarespaceWebsites Tools Extension PRO allows you to use gallery blocks in the newest version of Squarespace.

  3. Export and import Site Styles
This is ideal for backing up Site Styles before handing off sites to clients. It’s also very handy for installing styles from a Squarespace template onto an existing website.

  4. Lazy summaries
Using a summary block and annoyed by the 30-item limit? This plugin contains a workaround that allows you to add ALL your posts or products to a summary block.

  5. File manager
If you upload files to your site, this saves you having to go into the Pages menu, open the link editor and upload files. File manager is a much faster option and since time is money, a great way to shave off a few minutes on site builds.

  6. Content presets
If you’ve built out a beautiful section layout and want to use it on another page or website, you are likely frustrated that you can’t copy sections across pages or sites within Squarespace. This plugin allows you to copy section contents anywhere on your site or across websites (it doesn’t currently work with special sections like auto layouts or galleries, but works with all normal sections), another major time-saving feature. You can also share your layouts with others and view and use other designers’ layouts.

  7. UI Tweaks
This menu gives you shortcuts to access the different areas of your website (Custom CSS, Site Styles, etc) which shaves time off development. Plus, you get previews for horizontal and vertical tablets in addition to the built-in mobile and desktop view.

Find Squarespace IDs

Another extension I use on virtually every website build. If you want to target a page, section, or block with Custom CSS, this extension allows you to find and copy the code to target in one click. So much easier and faster than inspecting the page code! See this post for how I use it.

WhatFont

This is the easiest way to identify fonts that I’ve found. Curious about what fonts a website is using? This font not only tells you which font, but the size, weight, and color as well. I use this especially when clients send over inspiration websites. I often find that the inspiration sites have fonts in common, which helps me select what fonts to use on their site.

Eye Dropper

There are lots of extensions out there that show you a color picker, but this is the cleanest and simplest I’ve found. I love that you can see the recent colors, save a palette, and view the hex, hsl, and rgb codes for each color.

GoFullPage

As a web designer, you’ll likely want to show off your creations in mockups but it can be a challenge to get a good full length screenshot of your websites. GoFullPage is the extension that works the best for me. It’s not foolproof, but when I’ve tried out other screenshot extensions, I always find myself coming back to this one. You can see how I’ve used it on my SWAY template page for mockups and full-height page screenshots.

Grammarly

Grammarly is an automated grammar checker with a generous free tier. It not only checks your writing for grammar errors but also flags misspelled words and incorrect punctuation. You can upgrade for more advanced suggestions on clarity, tone, and word choice. But I use the free version and appreciate it catching my typos!

Loom

Record and share your screen, your camera, or both. I use Loom to create videos for my courses, customized help videos for clients, and to answer “just a quick question” emails, since recording is much faster than typing. I use the Business plan at $8/month which seems like a great deal. It allows me to create an share unlimited videos and included automated transcripts as well as the ability to remove filler words from the recording. “Um” anyone? Loom comes as a Chrome extension, but for fuller control, you can download the desktop app.

If you are a Squarespace designer, using Chrome extensions can not only make your work easier, it can also speed up your workflow. I use each one of these plugins, and many of them every day I’m at my desk. I’ve found them all to be extremely helpful and I hope they make your workdays a little easier too.
