2025 year in review - Squarespace web design business

October 2025 marked seven years of being a full-time solopreneur, and BOY have things changed over the past couple of years. This year was my highest revenue year yet, and thank goodness… have you seen the price of eggs?! The paycheck just doesn’t go as far as it did a year or two ago, plus it felt like every software tool I use decided to raise its prices, too. If you’re feeling the squeeze, I’m right there with you.

But there were some amazing parts to 2025 as well! I went all in on blocking out my calendar and creating my signature course, The Web Designer’s Playbook™, which felt like a real leap of faith but was so worth it in many ways. Will Myers and I kept going with our Somewhat Useful podcast, even though we’ve made zero money with it, we were able to get some sponsors to offset tech and editing costs, and it has been all kinds of fun especially since we moved it to YouTube live. And of course, seeing so many of you at Squarespace Circle Day - my favorite work day of the year!

Keeping with my 2024 schedule, I worked an average of 25-30 hours a week but didn’t quite manage a week off each month. Partly because our dog Percy had THREE surgeries (she’s doing great now, though) and that cut back on travel.

Overall, it was a good year for my business, and I’m feeling very grateful.

💰 Revenue Streams for a Squarespace Designer

In 2025, I had 5 main revenue streams (YouTube AdSense was new this year - it’s the unlabeled sliver below):

  • 1:1 Work (Custom Web Design, Template Buildouts, Designer for a Day®, and Squarespace Help)

  • Affiliate Income

  • Digital Product Sales (driven mostly by The Web Designer’s Playbook)

  • Sponsored Content

  • YouTube AdSense

And here’s how those made up my total revenue:

This was a very different pie chart to 2024, with my 1:1 work finally under 50%, which has been the goal for a couple of years.

Now let’s dive into each of those buckets and see how the year shook out.

↕️ 1:1 Work - Squarespace Web Design

  • Custom Web Design: 2 websites, much less than last year
    This was a direct result of my setting aside time to create my course and lean into content creation this year. There just wasn’t enough time on the calendar for more custom sites. I expect this to go up slightly for 2026.

  • Template Buildouts: 6 websites, many more than last year
    I had planned to do more of these and it worked out great. Perfect for the “I’ll know it when I see it” crowd since they see exactly what they are getting before the build. It’s a great revenue driver because it doesn’t require much time once you have the systems set up. (And my next course will be ALL about how to create those systems.)

  • Designer for a Day®: 6 sessions, down from 10 last year
    I loved this service, but am retiring it for now. My last Designer for a Day of 2025 took THREE days because of platform issues and I just can’t offer these if it’s going to 3x my commitment.

  • Squarespace Help: 32 sessions, about half as many as last year
    I went back to offering these to everyone in 2025, but in 2026 plan to only offer them to past clients. I really enjoy these, but even opening up the calendar for them two days a week feels like they just chop up my work day. We’ll see if I change my mind around this.

I did considerably less 1:1 work overall in 2025, trying to create more “passive” income streams, while still keeping a hand in. My goal going into the year was to up the number of template buildouts for 2025 (and I did 3x these), do 5-6 custom builds (eh, just did 2) and maybe 5-10 Designer for a Day sessions (yep, 6). My goal for 2026 is to do 2-3 custom websites, 5-6 template buildouts, and 0 Designer for a Days, again creating more space for course and content creation.

↕️ Affiliate Income

Affiliate income held steady from last year and it’s nice to see work I’ve done in the past on blog posts and YouTube videos continuing to pay off. A nice chunk of this was again Squarespace referral payments, so if you haven’t joined Squarespace Circle yet and are building websites, don’t wait.

⬆️ Course & Squarespace Template Sales

This number was WAY up from 2024 in large part to the wonderful designers who purchased The Web Designer’s Playbook (if you were one of those, thank you!). I launched this early in the year and have continued to do monthly calls with my students throughout the year. I’ve loved this community! I’m so happy with the feedback I’ve gotten and plan to create another course for designers this year.

💰 YouTube AdSense

My channel was monetized at the end of April. This means that YouTube shares some of the ad revenue from ads shown alongside my video, and I’ve been getting payouts every month since May. Since YouTube was something I was doing anyway to drive leads and sales, this has been a great bonus. It’s not revenue that I count on (much like affiliate income), but it’s still nice.

🤝 Sponsored Content

I worked with a few brands last year and had some great experiences. Shoutout to the ones who made the process enjoyable. Some brands opted for sponsored blog posts, others wanted YouTube videos or newsletter ads, and some did a combo. I’ve just finished Justin Moore’s Sponsor Magnet book, which is full of great tips if you are thinking about diving into sponsored content, and I signed up for Sponsor Games. So definitely planning on leaning into this more in 2026.

What I Enjoyed Working on the Most

Getting The Web Designer’s Playbook out of my head and into course form took a VERY long time, and it was a gamble… it was time that I could have spent doing web design in return for SURE THING money. But it paid off, and I’m so very proud of it. I think that it’s what I most enjoyed doing in 2025. My favorite thing is hearing from neurodivergent students about how it makes sense to them, and they are actually implementing the lessons. So, yeah, good feels.

✍️ Squarespace & Web Design Content Creation

This was another big year for content, mainly focused on YouTube. It’s continuing to pay off, both literally through AdSense revenue, contributing to my affiliate income, through sponsored videos, and I’m also getting service inquiries from folks who found me there. This is tied with my course for the best thing I did in 2025.

My highlight of the year was sharing the Squarespace Circle Day stage with Kristine Neil, Risha Chesterfield, and Aaron Soto. I moderated the panel on Helping Clients Grow, Sell, & Evolve.

🎙️Podcasts

Will Myers and I continued recording Somewhat Useful, a podcast for digital entrepreneurs, but moved it to YouTube and started going live. We’re back for 2026 and excited to keep this going!

My blog is what has traditionally helped the most with SEO, showing my expertise, and leading to client bookings and affiliate sales. So it’s responsible for a lot of my income.

My site traffic has continued to fall as more and more of my information is served up in AI answers. But, there’s always YouTube…

🎥 YouTube Videos

In 2025, I posted 93 YouTube videos (up from 70 the previous year). Some of these were the podcast and some were lives where I chatted with other designers. My most viewed videos were How to Send an Email from Squarespace Campaigns and a Squarespace SEO Guide for Beginners.

And my channel grew from 2,437 to 4,000 subscribers and I was monetized in April 2025 💰🎉

I posted some reels to Instagram in 2025, easing back into it. You can follow me @christypricewebdesign. I ditched the 9-grid and am planning to do a bit more here this year to help sell my courses.

📧 Email List

In 2025 I stuck with Podia as my email marketing system. Since I use it for my courses, it works out great. I keep cleaning my list to keep it around 3k subscribers.

  2. Will Myer’s Code Curious Membership. Let me count the ways I love this… here’s a little highlight reel of some of my favorite things. And it’s only $15/month.

  3. Liz Wilcox’s $9 Email Marketing Membership. When I get stuck, it’s there for me.

  1. Skool ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Seriously, don’t miss this one!
    My favorite membership platform by a MILE. If you are thinking of running a community, look no further.

  2. Canva.
    I use this every day for YouTube thumbnails, blog post thumbnails, presentations, Instagram posts, and a lot more. Kudos to them for being what felt like the only platform to NOT raise prices in 2025.

  3. Descript.
    This is what I use to record and edit my YouTube videos. Is it perfect? Decidedly not. Is it better than anything else I’ve tried? Yep.


🗓 The Wrap-Up

In 2025, I made more money, and thank goodness, because the cost of living (and cost of software) has gone up too. I leaned into creating more passive income streams while still keeping a hand in web design.

In 2026, I want to continue to focus on growing my YouTube channel, starting a new unrelated channel, and launching a new course. And still do web design, too.
