Fix your Instagram feed on Squarespace

Have you noticed your Instagram feed on your Squarespace site isn’t updating? Maybe it’s stuck displaying older posts, and no matter how many times you refresh, it won’t budge. Don’t worry — you’re not alone. This issue pops up because Instagram occasionally updates its API, which is the technology that allows it to communicate with platforms like Squarespace. But the good news? It’s a quick fix.

Let’s break down the steps to get your Instagram feed back up and running on Squarespace, or skip to the end and watch the video.

Why Does the Instagram Feed Stop Updating?

Instagram uses an API (basically some behind-the-scenes code) to share content with other platforms. When Instagram updates this API, it can disrupt the connection between your Instagram account and your Squarespace site. If the connection breaks, Squarespace keeps showing older content because it can’t pull in anything new.

This can sometimes happen without warning, and since the system doesn’t update automatically, you’ll need to reauthorize the connection yourself.

Steps to Fix Your Instagram Feed on Squarespace

Follow these steps to reset your Squarespace Instagram integration and get everything back to normal:

1. Log into Instagram

In one browser window, log into your Instagram account. Leave this window open. It makes connecting to Squarespace easier later. If you have multiple Instagram accounts, make sure you’re logged into the correct one.

2. Go to Your Squarespace Settings

Start by logging into your Squarespace account and navigating to your site’s dashboard. From there:

  • Click on Settings.

  • Scroll down to Third Party Tools and select Connected Accounts.

PRO TIP: Squarespace likes to move things around, so if you’re having trouble finding “Connected Accounts” you can use the “/” key on your keyboard to search for it. Here’s how.

2. Reconnect Instagram to Squarespace

Reauthenticate your instagram account on Squarespace

You should see Instagram listed as one of your connected accounts. To reset it:

  • Select Instagram from the list.

  • If you see a red error message that says “Account is disconnected” or “unauthorized” click the link to reauthenticate your account. A pop-up window will appear that asks if you’d like to continue with your previous settings. Click the Continue button.

This reestablishes the connection using Instagram’s updated API.

This is typically all you need to do. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to get the new posts so if you don’t see changes right away don’t worry. If you don’t see changes after 15 minutes, then try the next step.

4. Test Your Feed

After reconnecting, head back to the page on your Squarespace site where the Instagram block is located. Refresh the page, and check if the feed now displays your most recent posts.

If it’s still not showing new content, clear your browser cache or check the block settings to confirm you’re selecting the correct Instagram account.

What to Do if the Feed Still Doesn’t Work

If you’ve followed these steps and your Instagram feed is still stuck:

  • Double-check your Instagram account’s status. Does it have any restrictions or security settings blocking external apps?

  • If resetting the data didn’t fix the issue, there is one last thing to try before reaching out to Squarespace support. Edit the page where your Instagram Block lives, then edit the Instagram block itself. Make sure the correct account is selected under Connected Account, then click to Apply your changes, then Save the page.

  • Contact Squarespace support. They might be able to identify issues specific to your account or platform version.
