Fix your Instagram feed on Squarespace

Has your Instagram feed stopped updating on your Squarespace website? Here’s how to fix it.

If you are using the Instagram block on your Squarespace website to show your most recent posts, you may notice that from time to time it gets stuck and stops feeding in new posts. This happens most often when Instagram changes their API (the interface that allows Squarespace to pull in your Instagram posts).

Fortunately, it’s an easy fix to get it working again. Just follow these steps or watch the video below if you’d like to see them in action.

1. Log into Instagram

In one browser window, log into your Instagram account. Leave this window open. It makes connecting to Squarespace easier later.

2. Log into Squarespace

In another tab or window, log into your Squarespace website and go to Settings > Connected Accounts. This is where you can see each social account connected to your site that allows for pushing and pulling data. (This is different than Settings > Social Links where you set up links to your social accounts. These are just simply links to your accounts without any data transfer and we most often use these in Social Blocks.)

3. Reauthorize or reconnect your Instagram

Next to the Instagram icon, you’ll see your Instagram account name and “Pull Enabled.”

If you see a red error message that says “unauthorized” click the link to reauthenticate your account. A pop-up window will appear that asks if you’d like to continue with your previous settings. Click the Continue button.

Next, whether or not you saw that red error message, go back to your Squarespace account and click on your Instagram account under Connected Accounts. In the Instagram Settings popup, select Reset Data. That will cause any blocks using Instagram to be repopulated with your latest posts. Sometimes this takes a few minutes, so don’t worry if you don’t see your newer posts right away.

4. Update your Instagram Blocks

If resetting the data didn’t fix the issue, there is one last thing to try before reaching out to Squarespace support. Edit the page where your Instagram Block lives, then edit the Instagram block itself. Make sure the correct account is selected under Connected Account, then click to Apply your changes, then Save the page.
