2025 Squarespace Blog Wish List: Features I’d Love to See
Squarespace is a fantastic platform for bloggers, but it isn’t perfect. As someone who works with Squarespace daily, I’ve noticed a few pain points that could use some TLC. Here’s my personal wish list for what I’d love to see added to the Squarespace blog in 2025. If you’re a fellow Squarespace blogger, keep reading—these updates could make life much easier for all of us.
Why Squarespace Blogging Needs Attention
The current Squarespace blog setup is functional but outdated in some areas. Usability quirks and missing features often create roadblocks for bloggers wanting a seamless experience. And while Squarespace has rolled out lots of new features in other areas of its platform, blogging improvements could really go the extra mile. Let’s look at the issues and fixes that could make Squarespace a blogging powerhouse.
Fixing Hidden Blog Posts
Have you ever clicked into your blog section only to panic because your posts seemed missing? When Squarespace added the Blog Monetization feature, they relocated posts behind an extra click in the "Blog Content" area. This change, known as progressive disclosure but what I like to call “extra clicks”, adds unnecessary complexity.
While it may seem minor, this extra step can confuse even seasoned users. Some of my clients initially thought their posts were missing. Making blog posts directly accessible again without that extra click would save time and prevent confusion.

Better Internal Linking for SEO
Internal linking is essential for creating an SEO-friendly site structure. When you link between related blog posts, you help both users and search engines understand your content. But with Squarespace, adding internal links is cumbersome. You have to copy and paste URLs manually, which is both time-consuming and error-prone.
Interestingly, Squarespace’s email campaigns allow you to select and link to specific blog posts directly. If they can make it work there, why not bring the feature to the blog editor? Simplifying internal linking would be a huge win, especially for bloggers prioritizing SEO.

Improved Search Features
Squarespace’s current search block leaves a lot to be desired. Users often end up with irrelevant results, which harms the user experience. Squarespace 7.1 also removed the ability to add a search block directly to the site header, something many bloggers still miss.
Until Squarespace improves its search functionality, I’ve been using a workaround called the Universal Filter plugin. It creates a combined category and search tool that provides a much better user experience than the default search block.
Still, it would be ideal if Squarespace enhanced its built-in search system. A quicker, more accurate, better looking search function could streamline navigation on blogs of every kind.
A Better Date Picker for SEO Updates
Squarespace’s date picker is another area where small improvements could have a big impact. Updating the publication date of older posts is a great way to signal refreshed content to search engines. However, the current picker forces users to click manually through every month to reach their desired date. And it takes FOR.EV.ER.
There’s a free workaround called the Publication Date Picker from Beyond Space Studio. By adding this feature directly to Squarespace, bloggers could save significant time when re-optimizing older content.
What’s Next for Squarespace Blogging?
Squarespace already excels as a beginner-friendly platform, but a few focused updates could truly elevate its blogging features. Fixes like better search, easier internal linking, and smarter tools for content updates could streamline the process for creators everywhere.
Until then, workarounds and third-party plugins provide temporary options. But let’s hope that Squarespace listens to its blogging community in the coming year. The changes would make blogging on Squarespace not just good—but great.
