Spring Cleaning your Squarespace Website

It’s the time of year when I do some spring cleaning around the house, and there are also a few items I tidy up on my website. Here’s my list so you can check these on your own site to make sure it continues to look and perform its best:

1. Check for broken links.

These sneak up on you! I run this check from time to time and use different tools, as sometimes one will find a dead link another missed:

2. Clean up your Not Linked section.

In your Squarespace Pages dashboard, you have an area called Not Linked. These pages are not in your navigation, but they are still LIVE on the internet. If you have pages in the Not Linked section that you aren’t using (and wouldn’t want people to stumble on in Google), disable the page in Page Settings by turning off Enable Page in the General panel.

However, if you have a page that you want to keep live so people can access it, but you don’t want it showing in Google results (like a hidden scheduling or onboarding page), go to the SEO panel in Page Settings and click Hide Page from Search Results.

3. Update your content.

Do you have service and pricing changes or any outdated content on your website? Set aside some time to refresh that information. Don’t forget to update SEO Descriptions for your site (under Marketing > SEO) and for individual pages (in the Page Settings under SEO) to reflect any changes. Also remember to update this information anywhere else it might be found online, like Google Business or other directories.

4. Review blog posts.

If you have a blog, make sure you’ve used your keywords in the right places, optimized images, and more.
